Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha - Member of the Provincial Committee, Vice Chairman of Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee, heads of departments, agencies, hospitals and medical facilities in the province. On the side of the partner institutions, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hiep - Rector of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien - Rector of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, heads of universities, research centers, and businesses operating in the field of medicine.

In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, Thu Dau Mot University (TDMU) announced the decision to establish the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and appointed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh as the dean of the Faculty. According to the operational plan, in the years 2022-2023, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy will have 3 training majors: Biomedical Engineering, Public Health, and Medical Laboratory. In addition, TDMU will establish a Center for Medical Diagnosis on hematology, blood biochemistry, urology, cancer screening and reproductive health; building a TDMU pharmaceutical practice house...

At the ceremony, the Ethics Committee for Biomedical Research was established with 11 members who were prestigious and experienced scientists, managers, and doctors in the field of medicine and education. The Committee’s tasks were to evaluate and criticize biomedical research and clinical projects in Binh Duong.

Officially starting cooperation activities in the field of Medicine, TDMU signed a memorandum of understanding with Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

In his congratulatory speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hiep - Chairman of the University Committee said that this event marked the university's development in the process of achieving the goals and missions set out since its establishment. Assoc. Prof. shared that medicine and pharmacy were related to human health and life, TDMU decided to establish the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy after more than 10 years of construction and development, which shows the importance of this field. When participating in the field of medicine and pharmacy, we not only had to face many challenges but also had to absolutely comply with the strict requirements of this profession to avoid making mistakes, which may affect the long-term future of the university, the learners and the society. Therefore, Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Van Hiep asked that, from the very beginning, lecturers in the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy needed to work seriously, and at the same time, to foster and cultivate scientific knowledge and training quality, understand medicine ethics to be able to succeed in their duties. “I hope that the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy is a good start for TDMU to continue to rise to a higher position in the higher education system of Vietnam and the ASEAN region” - Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Van Hiep set expectations.

Objectives and operational plan of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy:

  • Building a scientific foundation at TDMU in research and approach to clinical implementation in the fields of biomedical, laboratory, nursing and clinical medicine to deploy and teach the health sector
  • Deploying and connecting medical systems, preventive medicine, health management, pharmacology to support research and opening of health sciences: Public health, Pharmacy, Nursing, OdontoStomatology, and General Medicine
  • Building and deploying the Center for Testing Medical Diagnosis, Hospital, Dentistry, Center for Drug Testing and Drug Administration at TDMU in connection with Departments of Health, hospitals, businesses, specialists nationally and internationally
  • Connecting projects and experts with domestic and foreign elements in the development and implementation of CTDT in the health sector: Experience in building laboratories, hospitals, training to support human resources for the health industry for Binh Duong and the Southeast region Ho Chi Minh city
  • In the first phase of establishment (2022 to 2023), the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy will have 3 training majors: Biomedical Engineering, Public Health and Medical Testing.
